Provides insight of what wonderful things you can do with fused glass
This class will introduce you to various techniques of using powder, frit, stringers and confetti for maximum effect. All Bullseye powder and frit is made from Bullseye compatible glass so it can be used confidently in conjunction with any other Bullseye glass products. Powders and frits are a versatile and cost effective way of bringing colour, texture and pattern into your art pieces.
Also you will be introduced to inclusions (generally inclusions are non-glass products that can be used in your fusing projects) such as silver leaf, copper foil/mesh and glassline paper.
Objective: To make a 20cm x 20cm slumped plate and four 10cm x 10cm coasters (or two plaques and a clock face ) using 3mm Bullseye Tekta (clear) and opaque glass.

Method: After Maureen has demonstrated and discussed various methods each student will then practice cutting glass using window (float glass) and then go on to cut their own individual pieces of glass for their projects using 3mm Tekta (clear) and opaque glass – clean the glass ready for either using powders or inclusions etc – stack their pieces on a kiln shelf provided ready to be fired and placed in the kiln. Students will wear safety glasses when cutting or grinding glass and use the cutting mats provided. Masks must be worn when using Powders. (Unless students are confident in cutting their own coasters etc. Maureen will have these already cut for you, leaving you to try and cut your own decorative pieces to apply on top instead. So no worries there.
Accessory Glass: Bullseye make a wide range of accessory glass to enable you to create wonderful patterns, textures, colour mixes etc. It appears in the form of Frit (crushed, cleaned and screened Bullseye sheet glass) Powder glass, Stringers and Confetti glass. Glass powder is the finest form of frit and it can be sieved on the surface of the glass or used between the layers of glass to create depth. It enables you to create subtle shading effects, wonderful landscape effects and textures. Frit is available in fine, medium and course particle sizes. Stringers are sticks of glass in 1mm or 2mm thicknesses – these can be cut easily, shaped in a candle flame, and used in many different ways to create exciting designs. Confetti is thin shards of glass made from a large blown balloon of glass, leaving the shards varying in thickness and colour density.
Certain colours made by Bullseye are striking colours – this means that the unfired sheet looks generally paler than the fired sheet – as the colour matures in firing. Bullseye also make styles which are reactive – designed to create special effects when in contact with certain colours. Some Bullseye colours are reactive with certain materials such as silver wire or copper foil. You will have had the opportunity to make and try some of these products in your pieces (especially coasters or fridge magnets).
